SuperOneClick or SOC is one of the most dependable and successful rooting software that I have found in recent times. It is a Windows based software and is extensible by adding plugins or exploits for various phones or tablets. To top it all it is almost fool proof, you just can not go wrong with it.I have had 100% success with phones running

Android 2.1

Android 2.2

Android 2.3

Android 2.3.2

Android 2.3.3

Android 2.3.4

and marginal success with Android 2.3.5

SOC not only roots the device but it also installs SuperUser and Busybox on it.

Steps to root Android using SuperOneClick.

The latest version is 2.3.3 and you can download it here

1. After download, extract the zip file into a folder.

superoneclick-zip

2. Click and run the SuperOneClick.exe

3. You will be greeted with a window like this.

superoneclick-main-window

4. Now on your phone or tablet go to

Settings->Application->Development

and disable the “USB Debugging” option. If it is not checked, leave it as it is.

5. Connect the device to your computer using the data cable.

6. Now click “Root” in the SuperOneClick window.

7. When it says “Waiting for device”, go to

Settings->Application->Development

and turn on “USB Debugging”

8. It will now show you a bunch of lines in the window and root your device.

If rooting on your device doesnot stick or does not work, leave a comment and I will try to help you.

If it works, tell me by posting a comment so that other readers can thank you.

NOTE: You may have to disable your Anti Virus before you extract the SuperOneClick zip file and while rooting your phone or tablet or MID. It will not work with anti-virus running.

  • Bill Backus says:

I have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G phone. When running SuperOneClick i have debugging off then plug the device into my Win7 laptop. After plugging it in, I attempt to turn debugging on. However, the phone says USB cable must be unplugged before turning on debugging. Is there something I am missing?

    Bill

    • admin says:

It happens some of the time. Just keep the debugging on before you plug it, if it is not working the way I mentioned in the post. Also with newer Samsung/Motorola/LG firmwares, superoneclick gets stuck on Step 5 or Step 7. If it does, you will have to wait for an exploit to become available. There are some exploits for Sasmung Galaxy S 4G can you mention your firmware / rom model?

    • alxaustn says:

HEY, DID YOU EVER GET IT GOING?

  • Lala says:

It keeps freezing at Step #7 (WaitForDevice) it says, should I do something at this point? I have followed the directions fully so I do not understand what I should do, I have a Samsung Vitality 2.3.4

    • admin says:

Some times it takes anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour. But if you have done an OTA update recently, I do not think it is rootable any more. I will look around to see if there are some Samsung Vitality 2.3.4 specific available or not.

    • admin says:

Here is a guide and the required softwares to root Samsung Vitality. This might help you

      http://jailbreakandroid.org/root-samsung-admire-samsung-vitality-samsung-sch-r720-samsung-indulge-they-easy-way.html

      • Lala says:

This method worked flawlessly, I just installed ‘Superuser’ from the market ahead of starting the process to ensure it was installed without complications and it did…thank you for suggesting/finding this site…xoxoxoxo

Same problem .. i HAVE BEEN TRYING TO ROOT MY PHONE ALL DAY -_- I have an htc wildfire s .. please help me out thx ;)

      • Rev RD White II says:

Me too. I’ve been trying to root my Wildfire S for 3 days. Today is the first time I’ve found where to download a newer version of SOC (Thanks to the Admin here). But no matter what I do, or when I turn on the debugging, it always stops at step #7.
        Wildfire S (US MarvelC [SprintVM])
        Android 2.3.4
        HTC Sense 2.1
        Software Number 3.01.652.1 710RD

        Kernel 2.6.35.10-g9d97ecb
        build 3.01.652.1 CL347228 release-keys

  • Jeanna says:

Thank you! It was easy peasy.

  • Bill Backus says:

The firmware is 2.2.1 and the model is SGH-T959V. The build number is FROYO.VUVKD1.

    Thanks

    • admin says:

Since it is Froyo you can also try the Universal Androot.

SuperOneClick will also work with this phone,

      1. Open SuperOneClick
      2. Connect your phone.
      3. In the exploit dropdown on the extreme right of the window, select “rageagainstthecage”, normally it shows “Auto” by default.
      4. Press Root

      Let me know what happens.

  • Bill Backus says:

The version of SuperOneClick I have shows two options, rageagainstthecage and psneuter. I have tried both. I have used two computers to try download my pictures from this cell but neither have “seen” the phone. The phone knows it is connected to USB but my computer doesn’t see it as a drive. I have changed the setting to “mass storage” on the phone but still no success. Could this be causing the issue? How do i get my laptop to recognize my phone? I downloaded the 64 bit USB Samsung Galaxy drivers and installed them without success.

    how to install su binary?

    • admin says:

Depends on the phone or tablet. In case of superoneclick, it pushes the “su” package after rooting. In other cases you have to flash a custom recovery to get root and the su binary is packed with it.
